Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has been setup under the Ministry of Railways to facilitate the functioning of major corridors in India, as these will have the same impact that rivers and highways had in the process of development. These corridors will be a key infrastructure project that will drive the economic growth that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Development Alliance (NDA) government hopes to deliver.

ADVANTAGES OF EASTERN FREIGHT CORRIDOR

1. Construction Project of the eastern corridor will alone create demand of 1.2 million tonnes of cement and 1 million tonnes of steel.

2. This implies for a huge boost for the major infrastructure industries and which will also create demand for major electrical equipment's and cables, signalling equipment. 

3. Locomotives and rolling stocks will also be required for the project and as they have to be procured from international companies under the financial assistance agreement. 

4. Some of the international companies have committed to make this equipment in India - that too will provide a big boost to manufacturing and create employment in all engineering disciplines.
